In Mandan Heroes STILL Exist...And YES Cats Do Have Nine Lives

It is no secret that cats ( kittens ) are a curious bunch, and it's also well known that...

..."Cats have nine lives". Just a couple of days this tiny kitten fell into a drain pipe and spent half a day trapped, with no way out. Last Tuesday was when people here in town STOPPED what they were doing, and they all had one goal - to save a frightened young kitten. The looks on faces surrounding the area were filled with concern and motivation. This is what heroes are all about.

Right around 11 in the morning, a young lady named Sierra heard some pleas for help

It happened in the Lakewood area in Mandan, here are some details from the Furry Friends Rockin' Rescue Facebook page:

"This little kitten had a rough day yesterday. It ended up down a drain pipe which went into a pond and was over 15 feet in roughly. Sierra along with some of her friends dedicated their day to finding help for this kitten so they deserve a big thank you. Thank you to Roto-Rooter for stopping by to use their snake camera and try to get the kitten out. The Mandan Fire Department came out to assess the situation but could not tie up a fire truck as it would take a lot of time to extract this kitten.

The huge lifesavers of the day were New Freedom Center guys, random good samaritans and the Furry Friends volunteers. All were dedicated to helping until this kitten was safe. We were there for hours. We will work on making sure there are no more open drains for small animals to fall into. There is also some more kittens in that area we are working on live trapping. All once caught will be safe with us. Sierra's family may even want to adopt the drain kitten. We will work with them on that if they do"

Here is my favorite part of this whole story, besides the kitten being saved - it's knowing that people in our community CARE, and will do whatever it takes to do the right thing. Thank you to Shelley Christianson, Thank you, Sierra, Thank you to Furry Friends Rockin's Rescue. A special note, I talked to Joshua Olson from New Freedom Center yesterday - he summed up what everyone was thinking during the rescue - he told his guys at work "We're not going to deal with anything today except for saving this kitten..."
