Here's something you might want to keep in mind while you're organizing, donating, and throwing things out. There are some items--and you might not expect it--that are really a bad idea to keep in your garage.

Lucky for you, I've put together a list of these items you might want to reconsider.

8 Things You Shouldn't Store In Your Garage

1. Paint

Different temperatures and weather conditions can alter the formula. Better keep it in a controlled climate.

2. Firewood

While everybody loves a good campfire, you want to keep it out of your garage; it attracts bugs and mice like crazy. Once they get in your garage, it won't be long before they get into your house.

3. Pet Food

Unless you have it in some sort of protected container, you will want to keep your pet food in a pantry of cabinet. Mice will try to get into it.

4. Books

Have some books that you don't want on display, but can't quite bring yourself to get rid of them? Well, don't put them in your garage. Oddly enough, insects are attracted to the glue that binds them together.

5. Printed Photographs

Have some old photos you're planning on putting in a scrapbook one of these days? Better not keep them in the garage. The moisture in the air can ruin them.

6. Wine

Temperature changes and humidity are not your friends when it comes to wine. If you stocked up for a party, better keep it inside.

7. Anything That Can Freeze

This is pretty much a "duh" in North Dakota, but just a friendly reminder that your liquids will become solids and certain item can explode.

8. Oily Rags

You might be pretty handy. You might like to work on your cars and from time to time spill a little oil. If you clean it up with rags, I'd advise that you don't store or leave those oily rags in your car; it can be a fire hazard.
