Have North Dakota Schools Banned Dodgeball?

You either loved it or hated it. Dodgeball is something very few of us forget.

Thinking back to my childhood experiences with the game, I remember there were always kids that would take the game too far. --They would argue with someone about them being "out" or they would drill people in the face with a ball and make them cry.

Do They Still Allow It?

Did you know there are several states who have BANNED the game altogether? According to hhsadvocate.com, Maine, California, Maryland, New York, Virginia, Texas, Utah and Massachusetts do not allow the game to be played in public schools.

Arguments For & Against The Game

For the most part, the states that have chosen to ban the game and it's variations have done so because the game causing too many injuries, which is fair; I remember countless times where I've gotten hurt playing the game.

Not only that, some people argue that kids use the game to hurt and bully other kids.

Those who want to keep the game in schools say that it's good for hand-eye coordination and agility and the kids love the game.

North Dakota

While I can't say for sure that North Dakota schools are still playing the game, I can say that a variation of the game was still being played in 2014, according to an article published by the Grand Forks Herald.

If North Dakota schools are still playing the game, it's likely they've stopped using the traditional rubber balls, and started using use soft foam balls.

As far as I can tell, the game hasn't been officially banned in our state.
