The goal is to make the streets nicer and more inviting.

Tuesday night the Mandan city commission gave the approval to improve the main street section between Collins Avenue and 10th  avenue northwest.

Other things to improve visibility of downtown include curb extensions also called curb out's to intersections. These will be done with ornamental concrete with colored accents for a little flare.

According to this quote by the Bismarck Tribune:

“Some of the main goals of it are to calm vehicle traffic a little bit and to make it a better environment for pedestrians,” City Planning and Engineering Director Justin Froseth said. “Reducing that south lane gets the travel lane away from the sidewalk, and we get parking on the south side of Main Street.”

There was always an issue slowing down as we got into the downtown area and getting pulled over by Mandan cops can be a regular habit.  With these changes, I believe the speed issue won't be one due to the obstructions in traffic. It will also be beneficial to motorists in that regard.
