Monday It’s ‘Take Back the Night’ in Bismarck

A number of women, and men too, will take to the street Monday evening in Bismarck for Take Back the Night.

The Bismarck Tribune reports the annual observance will take place Monday evening at the Bismarck capitol grounds.

Take Back the Night is an annual event, held in communities nationwide for the purpose of remembering victims of domestic violence from state to state.

The local chapter of Abused Adult Resource Center (AARC) is hosting the event this year. Bismarck Police Chief Dave Draovitch is the featured speaker.

“We are concerned about violence against women in our state,” says Diane Zainhofsky, AARC executive director. “The night has traditionally been an unsafe time for women and children, and our rally represents a peaceful protest to reclaim the night.”

Participants should begin gathering at 5:15 p.m. on the south lawn of the State Capitol.

The Tribune says a "ceremony of remembrance and renewal" will start at 5:45 p.m. In addition, a program honoring victims and survivors will start at 6 p.m.at nearby McCabe United Methodist Church, 1030 North Sixth St.
