Here In Bismarck/Mandan – “It’s Just The Right Thing To Do”
"It's Just The Right Thing To Do"
Well, you talk about a perfect way to start your day, I saw a post this morning on the Bismarck Community Buzz Facebook group page -broke my heart.at first, quickly though I saw something amazing
The first thing I thought of was that the person or persons who did that were just plain ignorant and completely selfish, with not a care in the world except for pure greed. A few seconds later, out of experience from living in North Dakota for the last 15 years, I knew the response to this post would be incredible.
"Hang in there, there’s good people out there too."
I scrolled down for just a second and saw a response from Courtney Meier -
"Please send me a message. We have a glass company and I would love to see if we can help. Things can be replaced, you can’t. Hang in there, there’s good people out there too
**** Immediately, I wanted to follow up on this.
"Would it be ok if I wrote an article on this?..."
I sent a message to Courtney, hoping I would hear back from her, and I did, and it was perfect:
"Hello, thank you very much for reaching out. That’s very kind of you. Honestly,we strongly feel like we can’t do everything to change this world or peoples lives, but we can do things that were capable of. So whenever we get the opportunity to help and make a difference it is important to us to do so. God has always taken care of us. It’s very kind in this broken world to highlight positive stories, people need to see good things. But we definitely don’t need any recognition. It’s just the right thing to do...."
After exchanging messages for a bit this morning Courtney had this to say
Courtney made my day even more complete, once again leading by example what "North Dakota Nice" means - she replied to me with these amazing words:
"....We live in a great community and you see people’s true hearts through these times. We can all hold each other up by going shoulder to shoulder with one another. The world and many media wants to highlight anger and division but when we get face to face with one another we can all help in the areas we are capable of. Our company does glass, and we will always help wherever we can. Thank you for your kindness...."
An amazing ending to an emotional social media post:
This just goes to show you how much respect Courtney has for others, in one of her last messages to me, she said how grateful this person was for her offer to help - " I was so close to giving up. From the bottom of my heart, THANK YOU. I will not be able to say that enough..."
There was more to this person's message, but Courtney wanted to keep it private out of respect. Once again, these gestures of goodwill aren't planned or rehearsed. They are from North Dakota, people who genuinely care for one another. I'll close with this: Courtney is so modest; her intentions from the start were not to mention her company. I thought about that for a bit, and I said to myself, "The integrity and honesty she showed needs to be shared with all of Bismarck/Mandan - WE deserve to know :) So if you find yourself at Haider Glass Specialties, give Courtney a smile :) "
