This is a tough time for me, this week of mother's day preparation, flower commercials, families talking about getting together on Sunday, obviously to love and honor their mom. I lost mine on May 12th, 2010. She was only 72 years old. She had a rare illness that destroyed three of her final years. My mom hiked up Mt. Whitney, ran 13 marathons, and jumped out of an airplane for goodness sake. She left behind my stepdad Al, and my sister Carrie. My mom was a school teacher for over 20 years, having left a huge impression on her students. One of the things we loved to tease her about, constantly, was that one day she was in the audience during a taping of the PHIL DONAHUE show - as Phil shifted through the many questions thrown at him, he leaned over and fielded a statement from MY mom about the topic. The camera zoomed in as she boldly stated "I think we need to reevaluate our laws" That last comment came back to tease her many times at our dinner table for years and years.

We all get caught up in our busy world when we get older, and it's so easy to take for granted what we have OR had. My mom was an amazing, caring person. Imagine watching someone scoop up bees in the pool ( so they wouldn't drown ) while getting stung in the process. Mothers have that basic instinct to always be there for us when we need them the most. She sat with me many times trying to ease my pain through the dark years. The millions of memories I have of her unique, funny, touching moments are relived in my dreams almost nightly. My wish for everyone this weekend is to embrace your mom tight and say three simple words - "I love you".
