The date was November 13, 1789 - a fellow we all recognize - Benjamin Franklin - wrote in a letter to some dude named Jean-Baptiste Leroy - As he was telling Jean all about "Our new Constitution is now established....towards the end of this sentence, he cleverly said this "but in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes.”  Which is (excuse the pun) DEAD accurate to this day. Our friends from the IRS are quite well known for making sure taxes are being paid, and money is evaporated from you. There are some foolish people who think they can put off, or just NOT file their taxes. Beware, if you owe them a nickel, they'll find you, even if you relocated to the moon. Always surrender, you'll sleep better.

Check this out, according to CNBC.COM the agency made an announcement today (1-15-2021) "The IRS is delaying the start of the 2020 tax filing season to Feb. 12". Normally tax season opens in late January. The reasoning is that because of the COVID-19 relief act that took place last month, the IRS needs more time to prepare for this pleasant time of year. Personally, I'm way ok with the delay after reading what one of their agents had to say “If filing season were opened without the correct programming in place, then there could be a delay in issuing refunds to taxpayers,”

Finally, I know what you are thinking "Well then with their delay, SHIRLEY that means the normal tax deadline of April 15 will be pushed back"

WRONG (and don't call me Shirley)
