It's an unfortunate statistic to report, but according to 24/7 Wall St., a few counties in North Dakota show up in the top 37 counties in the U.S. where people die relatively young.

The average life expectancy today in the U.S. is about 78.5 years. However, not everyone is so lucky. The recent study took into account the percentage of deaths of young people in each county throughout the U.S. A "young person" is considered by the list to be under the age of 35. Throughout the country, just 3.4 percent of deaths are young people. While that is a small percentage, there are many counties in the U.S. where that percentage is significantly higher.

The following counties in North Dakota ranked as such on the list, showing percentage of deaths under age 35, and what the life expectancy is for each county.

30. Rolette County, North Dakota
> Pct. of deaths under 35 yrs.: 10.9%
> Life expectancy: 76.8 years

12. Benson County, North Dakota
> Pct. of deaths under 35 yrs.: 15.9%
> Life expectancy: 79.0 years

2. Sioux County, North Dakota
> Pct. of deaths under 35 yrs.: 23.8%
> Life expectancy: 77.5 years

The leading county in the nation for these statistics is in Kusilvak, AK where the percentage of death is over one-third of the population, while the life expectancy there is 77.8 years. The majority of counties in the top 37 were mostly in Alaska, South Dakota, and Montana. As for young people, the leading causes of death from age 10 to 35 are car crashes, drowning, or poisoning. These are all considered accidents.
