These Are The Deadliest Roads In North Dakota
I know without a doubt I am not an expert in this...
...However, I can tell you from many frightening experiences of being out and about in a storm, trying to navigate a vehicle through treacherous weather conditions. Every curve, every turn, when you are white-knuckling the steering wheel, you hold your breath hoping you won't lose complete control. Do you remember the first time someone gave you some advice on what to do if you start to spin out? All that goes out the window when it DOES happen to you. If you have lived in North Dakota long enough you will relate to just how dangerous some of these roads are in North Dakota.
Let's go over a few of them
Interstate 94 - From Fargo to Bismarck you can easily come across several dangers - according to theadvocates.com "Speed limits of up to 75 miles per hour, sudden changes in weather, and heavy traffic, particularly in urban areas, make I-94 prone to collisions. Snowstorms and fog can severely reduce visibility, increasing the risk for accidents. On average, there are more than 400 accidents on the I-94 annually"
US Route 85 - More drivers in the State of North Dakota have lost their lives here on this route. According to goldbergloren.com "The NHTSA (National Highway Traffic Safety Administration) reports that US Route 85 has the highest number of fatalities and injuries in North Dakota with an average of around 25 accidents each year"
Common sense is advised - for instance, put your cell phone away - don't even THINK of trying to send out a quick text message while you are behind the wheel. Some other tips:
- Make sure all parts of your car, including tires, lights, and wipers, are in good working order.
- Know the rules of the road wherever you plan to drive.
- Slow down when roads are snowy or icy or when visibility is low.
- Keep an emergency kit in your car with a cell phone charger, warm clothes, and jumper cables.
Always beware of where you are and how quickly conditions can change in North Dakota.
