BisMan “Sign, Sign, Everywhere A Sign..” Could Bring You A Fine
Listen I hear you when it comes to making a tiny OR huge sign and letting everybody know you're having a yard sale coming up...
...but the ironic thing is you better make sure that the sign is ON your property, NOT out in public. Does that make sense? Let me explain - your words of expression so to speak are fine, but they must be within your property, your land, and not on some boulevard or splotch of grass next to a public sidewalk or street. You could be fined if you do.
Still not understanding what I'm trying to say? I think the City of Bismarck can explain much better
The City of Bismarck put out a press release today:
Posting of Signs on Public Property Prohibited
BISMARCK, N.D.—The City of Bismarck is reminding residents and businesses to be lawful about the locations used to display signage in the community.
Signs of any kind are not allowed in the public right of way without approval of the City. These locations include, but are not limited to:
· Boulevards
· Utility poles
· Street lights
· Bridges
· Fences
· Railings
· Sidewalks
· Fire hydrants
· Traffic signals
· Street signs
· Signposts
Any signs in these areas are subject to removal and additional enforcement. Violation of the ordinances is a Class B misdemeanor, punishable by a fine of up to $1,500 and/or 30 days in jail. Signs and other advertisements are required to be placed on private property and in conformance with the zoning ordinance.
Well now I think the part where it says punishable by a fine of up to $1,500 hopefully grabbed your attention - just make sure anything you post or hang or whatever is ON your property. Good luck.
