Are you driving a Chevy Silverado or GMC Sierra pickup truck from 2020 to 2024? General Motors has issued a recall affecting nearly 820,000 trucks due to a safety concern with the tailgate latch.

Here's what you need to know: The electronic latch mechanism on certain models may short circuit if water gets into the tailgate, causing it to open unexpectedly while driving. This could result in items in your truck bed falling out, posing a hazard to you and other drivers on the road.

GM has already received 136 complaints of tailgates opening while vehicles were in motion. Shockingly, these incidents occurred even when the truck was in park, catching drivers off guard. While most reports only involved minor property damage, one incident resulted in a minor injury.

To ensure your safety, GM advises owners to manually close their tailgate before driving until the recall is addressed. Starting March 18, affected owners will be notified, and dealers will replace the exterior switch with a more water-resistant material.

This recall affects over 570,000 trucks in the United States and approximately 249,000 in Canada.

Stay safe on the road by taking action on this recall. Check if your vehicle is included and follow GM's instructions for a free repair. Your safety is paramount.
