Back in the day, sure seemed like yesterday, we all stood up at the start of the morning...

...in the classroom, with our right hand on our hearts, and recite the pledge of allegiance. An American flag in the corner - this was in grade school. A co-worker and I remember we did this on opposite coasts around the country- but didn't give it one thought besides the fact that we were all required to do so. I was in the third grade, around 9 years old. This was right around 1970.

Remember now, WE both didn't fight it -  we did that 5 days a week.

"I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all," Nobody fought this, nobody seemed too concerned that we mentioned God in school. Maybe there were a few that fought the right to just sit, and not participate. There is a proposed bill that has stirred up controversy. many will say this is forcing religion on students.

A bill has been introduced at the North Dakota Legislature requiring a new addition...

...to every classroom in the state: the Ten Commandments. According to inforum.com  "Bill 1441 proposes the mandatory display of the Ten Commandments in every public school classroom and every higher education classroom, applicable to all state educational institutions and public schools"  ndlegis.com says even more "...2. The display must be: a. On a poster or framed document that is at least eleven inches [27.94 centimeters] in width and fourteen inches [35.56 centimeters] in length.. The central focus of the poster or framed document. c. Printed in a large, easily readable font.

We shall see how this Bill does...
